Photography flood

Wed Sep 23, 2009, 3:09 PM
I have been doing photography as at least part of my living for years now, but mostly for non-art related photography. I do a lot of product design and photography for a friends laser electronics company. Over the winter I did a lot of jewelry photos for a local jewelry store. My personal photography is just reference for paintings. Photography is work, or a tool for me. It's usually a means to an end.

One of the tasks at my new job led me to Yellowstone to photograph interactive panoramas. The idea is to pan over the screen and see different parts of a hot spring and be able to interact with images of known critters. I live an hour and a half from Yellowstone, but I haven't gone there in years. I forgot how cool it is.

I went there on Friday and shot all day with a camera, tripod, tripod panorama head, a bag of lenses and a mini DV camera for stock footage.

I had a shot list of Norris and Mammoth, and those took all day. Setting up the tripod took a lot of work and I was unsure of the stitching procedure. The results were so good that I went bad on Sunday with my wife. I want to go back again.

I purchased stitching software and programmed a flash player for the panorama. It came together pretty fast. I also took a lot of images of microbial mats which I might include as textures.

So that is the reason for the photo flood. These are all work photos, but some were artistic enough for my portfolio. These are meant to illustrate science and research.

You've got some good work. I am inspired to going back and doing figure work again.

Hey Darren, thank you for addin one of my shots to your fav's. I sue appreciate it my friend.

I have done a lot of stained glass photography from some projects earlier. Unfortunately I have lost most of that from a hard drive crash.

Since you said that..
What do you think of the angles? and the processing job..
Be honest Darren.. I ain't no softie, and I would like to know your
honest opinion.. You see any room for improvement? ?
:iconpixelillustrator:
First what I like about this is the concept. You isolated one aspect of the church and made it the focus. Those windows just jump right out. Improvement... I don't think I could make improvements, but since it is digital there are areas to play with.
-streaked semitransparent copies of the windows to give a streak of light.
-contrasting the background to stark black and white
It's a good image and concept, I'd like to see a series or these.

Great, I appreciate the review and comment!
I did try the shot with the stark black and white background. It looked good, but on and accident, I layered the original copy over the top and had it set at 25% opacity. IT gave the church a hint of color, which caught my attention. I do wish I would have stayed with the black and white, and I still can, I just won't post two of the same shots here. It irritates me, and I can only imagine what other would think..

On the semitransparent copies with a streak of light.. Not sure how to accomplish this.

I am actually working on a series of these. It just takes time to get permission from some of the priests and ministers to photograph the church's..
